My husband and I were hit with a bug this week

It hit us pretty hard and knocked us both on our butts.

I’ve been fever free for a couple of days now but am still struggling with getting much of anything
accomplished. My husband is back to work and picking up the slack where I am still falling short.

Why am I whining about this to you? Because here’s the deal; I am sitting here silently berating myself
for being a big wimpy baby. I am once again, weighing myself against another person. I am not giving
myself grace.

I carry a lot of guilt on a daily basis because I don’t measure up to other people I know. I will not, and
cannot accomplish what most people can in a day. It’s just a fact. I have to remind myself constantly
that I have this annoying weird blahdy blah anemia. My blood cell count is good, but the cells
themselves are much smaller than normal, meaning that I am basically “running to keep up” with
everybody (as my doctor explained it). Add an illness to that, and it takes me a little extra to bounce
back.

So many people live with invisible illnesses and challenges. We don’t know what we don’t know. I guess
I’d like to put this out here as a gentle reminder, that we are not in competition, our right to exist should
not be measured by our continued productivity, give ourselves and others grace, and for heaven’s sake,
step away from those scales!

Now I’m going to go take a little nap.
